Bubble Tea. Literally the staple drink for everyone at my dance studio. We usually have it once a week, sometimes twice or three times, depending on the occasion. After some quick research, I have found that this holiday was actually started to celebrate Kung Fu Tea's (one of the many bubble tea shops in my city) anniversary of their opening date.
What is bubble tea? Although I am slightly shocked if you do not know what it is, I will still educate you on the best drink ever!
Bubble tea is a sweet drink, usually consumed cold. It is basically a tea base with these little black tapioca balls that are squishy. The tapioca balls, also called boba, are sucked up through a thicker straw (just for that purpose) along with the tea.
Yes, I have a feeling some people are thinking, "Ew, black squishy balls in tea?" Well, there are many other options of bubble tea, it's just that the tapioca balls are why it is called bubble tea. I usually get my tea with lychee or grass jelly, but there is also milk tea as well as many other types of fruit tea and toppings.
Below is a quick scene sketch of my current novel characters waiting in line at a bubble tea shop, with Tojin, my main character, running the cashier! Happy National Bubble Tea day everyone*!
What's your favorite drink combination or shop?
*Yes, I have realized that this is just "national" as in America, but who says the whole world can't appreciate it (at least where bubble tea exists, which I know it definitely does in Indonesia and Singapore)!
